AsaanReader Privacy Policy
Effective date: 4 October 2026
1. Who we are
AsaanReader is provided by Purposeware Labs. AsaanReader is a camera-based reading and explanation app that uses cloud processing to read, explain and speak information shown to the camera.

2. Information AsaanReader processes
Camera images
When you choose READ or EXPLAIN, the image you capture is sent from your device to AsaanReader's cloud backend and to cloud artificial-intelligence services so that the requested reading or explanation can be produced.
AsaanReader does not intentionally save captured camera images in its own Firestore usage-metering database. Cloud infrastructure and AI service providers may process or retain request data for limited periods for service operation, security, abuse prevention and compliance under their own applicable terms.
Generated text and speech
The text produced from a READ or EXPLAIN request is sent to a cloud speech service when spoken output is requested. This processing is necessary to provide the spoken response.
Anonymous installation and usage information
AsaanReader creates an anonymous app-installation/session identifier. We may store information such as:
- the anonymous identifier;
- the number of successful READ and EXPLAIN actions;
- monthly usage totals;
- AI token-usage totals;
- speech-generation call and character counts; and
- service timestamps.
This information is used to operate the app, measure usage, prevent abuse, manage future usage limits, estimate service costs and improve reliability. It is not used for behavioural advertising.
Technical information
Our hosting and cloud service providers may receive technical request information, such as IP address and connection metadata, where necessary to deliver, secure and troubleshoot the service.
3. Information we do not intentionally request through the app
The current version of AsaanReader does not require users to create an account and does not intentionally request:
- name;
- postal address;
- telephone number;
- contact list;
- precise location;
- microphone recordings;
- advertising identifiers for advertising purposes; or
- payment-card details.
Please avoid capturing highly sensitive documents during beta testing unless necessary for the test.
4. Why information is processed
We process information only for purposes connected with the AsaanReader service, including:
- providing READ and EXPLAIN;
- producing spoken responses;
- maintaining security and preventing abuse;
- measuring service usage;
- applying usage allowances when enabled;
- diagnosing service problems; and
- understanding aggregate beta usage and operating costs.
5. Cloud service providers
AsaanReader relies on cloud service providers to operate. These currently include services used for:
- application hosting and server processing;
- Google Gemini artificial-intelligence and speech processing; and
- Google Firebase / Cloud Firestore for anonymous usage metering.
These providers process information on behalf of Purposeware Labs subject to their applicable service terms, security controls and data-processing arrangements.
6. Data sharing
Purposeware Labs does not sell users' captured images or usage information.
Information may be transferred to cloud service providers where this is necessary to provide and secure AsaanReader. Information may also be disclosed where required by law or to protect users, Purposeware Labs or the service from fraud, abuse or security threats.
7. Security
AsaanReader uses HTTPS for communication between the app and its cloud backend. API credentials and administrative service credentials are kept on the server and are not intentionally embedded in the public Android application.
No internet-based service can guarantee absolute security.
8. Retention
Captured images are not intentionally written to AsaanReader's own Firestore usage-metering database.
Anonymous usage and service records are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, meter and evaluate the service, after which they may be deleted or anonymised.
Cloud service providers may retain limited service or abuse-prevention logs for periods determined by their applicable service settings and terms.
9. Your choices and deletion requests
You can stop future camera-image processing by not using READ or EXPLAIN and by uninstalling the app.
You may contact Purposeware Labs at the privacy email above to ask a privacy question or request deletion of information associated with the app. Because the current app does not require an account and uses anonymous identifiers, we may not always be able to identify a particular anonymous record from an email address alone. Where we can reasonably identify the relevant record, we will process valid deletion requests subject to legal and security requirements.
10. Children
The initial Google Play release of AsaanReader is intended for the declared target audience shown in its Google Play listing. Purposeware Labs does not knowingly design the current release to collect personal information from children.
If the intended audience is later expanded to include children, the app, disclosures and data practices will be reviewed before that change is published.
11. International processing
Cloud providers may process information in countries other than the country in which you use AsaanReader. Appropriate contractual and technical safeguards are used where required by applicable law.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when AsaanReader's functions, providers, legal requirements or data practices change. The effective date at the top of the policy will be updated when material changes are made.
